Our team have years of experience in developing trauma-based approach and we apply the following below to build effective relationships with service users:
- Build a positive relationship to everyone as a person to be understood from a place of empathy – not just a ‘number’.
- Allow the person to open and share information in a non-judgemental manner – Demonstrate compassion and empathy from a place of understanding to support them to heal.
- Support every service user to find their goals and aspirations and support them in education and employment opportunities.
- Listen to their views and wishes to support them to feel safe and build a positive life by encouraging independent choice.
- Understand that they may relapse and to be patient and provide support by never giving up.
- Non-Judgemental and provide a safe space to recover as the trauma they have experienced can be a difficult place to be in.
- They deserve to be respected and shown care, which will provide them with safe relationships and improve their mental health as they will have a network of staff who will provide an ear to listen to prevent them building unsafe relationships.
- The biggest key is to never give up and be patient when they feel upset, angry or display other emotions and give them time.
